Performance Annals
These annals are an effort to maintain a comprehensive chronology of Virginia Zeani's performances in operas, concerts/recitals, and on radio and television.
Zeani has donated her scrapbooks, and those of her husband Nicolai Rossi Lemini, to me for this project. She entrusted me with them after getting to know me and my passion for opera, especially for nineteenth-century Italian works. She was also aware of my work on the Beverly Sills site, www.beverlysills.com.
These annals will build on an initial compilation tirelessly researched by Roger Beaumont and Carlo Marinelli Roscioni, prepared as tribute for Zeani on her 80th birthday in 2005.
Currently the annals include only appearances in which Zeani sang. Her non-singing appearances (lectures, master classes, awards ceremonies, etc.) during her vocal career, as well as any appearances after she retired from singing, are not represented in the annals (a record of such appearances is planned for a future section).
The annals are an ongoing project and are currently incomplete. As more performances are identified and sources verified, they will be added.
If you have documented information (performance program, dated newspaper review, etc.) on performances not in the annals, no matter how trivial, I would be glad to hear from you.
